ENGINEERS WEEK

This year IBM Engineers Doug and Nathaniel Hieter and Friends took time out of their busy schedule to create a contest whereby Physics Students designed a contest entitled "TITANIC". Students were given a range of materials and constructed a boat to hold hundreds of pennys and remain floating.

Gretchen, Kristen, Melissa, Jen, and Julie get ready to release their vehicle.

Last year our students designed and built a vehicle which allowed an egg to drop from the ceiling and hit the concrete floor without breaking. Students also had to make their apparatus cost effective where, in the event of a tie, the team with the lowest total cost was the winner. Our students found out that Engineers apply the Physics and Calculus to "Real World" solutions and thereby "Turn dreams into Reality".

IBM software Engineers Doug and Nate pose with one of the egg contraptions.
