SPACESHIP DISCOVERY
Science and Technology Museum
Information
Founding the museum
For
32 years as a Physics Educator Mr. Floyd T. Holt engaged his students in
major class projects. Each year, they designed something new and different,
such as an exact radio controlled copy of R2D2 after "Star Wars"
premiered in the theatres and a flying saucer after "Close Encounters".
He found a great number were fascinated by the fact that they could use
their knowledge of Physics to build practically anything. These projects
included holograms, murals, a walking robot, a giant Carbon Dioxide laser,
a flying saucer, a spaceship car, ROBOTEACHER (a voice actuated teaching
and learning station), a computer controlled android resembling the Terminator
and many others. When he retired the feeling was that all of this effort
would be of great use to continue to educate and share these inventions
with the general public and "children of all ages" if he and his
"Starship Officers" created a museum. The last 5 years of his
career he created "THE SPACESHIP CLASSROOM" which combined all
the elements into a major theme. Pictures of their adventures may be found
on our web site at www.spaceshipclassroom.com. This endeavor has been asked
to go to the new Smithsonian Air and Space Museum at the Dulles airport
in Washington, DC but the creators decided to stay in New York to provide
access to citizens of this area.
Exhibits
Permanent Displays
The museum features interactive hands-on
and minds-on exhibits for children of all ages. The emphasis is on Science:
PAST, PRESENT, and FUTURE. Inside the main exhibit area there is the bridge
of a starship with a captain's chair, Science Officer Stations and spaceship
doors to the interior: robots R2D2; his girlfriend R2She2, a flying saucer,
the terminator, ROBOTEACHER, plasma displays, a High Technology area, space
vehicles, and an alien spaceship car. (More can be found on our web site).
In our outside area we will exhibit The Hyde Park Mastodon (recently featured
on the Discovery Channel), dinosaur models, murals, posters and displays
in a prehistoric setting.
Rotating Displays
We have a rotating series of exhibits so
that visitors will see new demonstrations and participate in new experiences
each time they arrive. Visitors can participate in topics on Biology, Chemistry,
Physics and the latest innovations in Technology. Several kiosks, galleries
and theatres are devoted to DVD and Digital video presentations and interactive
programs, games, contests and adventures.
Photos
Digital and 35 mm family and large group
photos next to all robots, etc. are available at the next visit or via email
and regular mail
at no charge and included in the
donation
Admission cost
Suggested donation is $3 but visitors may
choose to contribute whatever they wish. All Donations are tax deductible
and used to advance this project. They may be sent to The Classroom of the
future, Inc., 26 Stoutenburgh Drive, Hyde Park, NY 12538, or collected at
the door. A receipt will be sent in return to acknowledge this contribution.
